Registry Mechanic does not provide much features, and the scanning speed is normal, but it did provide registry defrag and compacting tool, which does not exists in 2 of my best registry cleaners (Registry Easy & Regcure).
Registry Mechanic is one of the most popular registry cleaner in these 2 years, although our test score not very impressive, but it still perform very well and highly recommended for PC Tools existing customer! In this review, I will try to outline some of its’ features and the advantages compare to other registry cleaners.
Registry Mechanic can detects the errors bellows:
- Software Locations - Missing software but entries exists
- Registry Integrity - Integrity check
- Windows Fonts - Missing fonts
- Help And Resources - Missing help and resources
- Shared DLLs - Missing DLL or inconsistency
- Startup Programs - Missing or bad start up
- Add/Remove Programs - Improper remove of software
- Virtual Devices - Corrupted Software simulate port or devices
- File Extensions - Bad file extensions
- Temp Files/Shortcuts - Temporary entries
- Custom Controls - Missing plug in controls
- Deep Scan - Expand scan to more errors (Take longer time)
Most features are shared with other registry cleaners, the error detection rate is not bad compare to our best result. Even with the errors detected and cleaned by our Best Registry Cleaner, it still manage to detect and clean many errors…(Please note that NO SINGLE REGISTRY CLEANER CAN DETECT AND CLEAN ALL ERRORS!)
Although the detection rate is not very impressive, but it did repair and cure most of the Windows and software errors:
- Improper Un-installation and un-installation left behind entries
- Incorrect removal of software
- Missing or corrupted hardware drivers
- orphaned startup program
- Some of the DLL hell
- Blue Screens of Death (BSOD)
Registry Mechanic’s Optimize Your System doesn’t provide as much tune-up and tweak as Registry Easy, but its’ simplicity and user friendliness is more preferable for most user; For advance user I would still recommend Registry Easy.
Compact Registry is something like Defrag and rearranging registry entries, which only few registry cleaners in the market offered. This tool is especially important when you have a lots of software installed in your computer, when your registry growth to a very high volume, this feature will allows you to minimize the loading time and speed up your normal computer operation.
In Summary, our test shows this is one of the fast and effective repair tools for most Windows and software errors, I would recommend Registry Mechanic for computer newbie, but for advance user, Registry Easy is the better choice!
