Computer freeze again? Do you know you can repair it without reinstalling your Windows?
You can always reinstalling you Windows if they freeze again, but do you really want to do that if you can repair it within 10 minutes?
Microsoft Windows is not a stable operating system until Windows XP Service Pack 2! If your computer still freeze after service pack 2, most probably is the software or hardware problem instead of operating system.
Normally there are only 2 major steps to determine the real cause of computer freezing:
The Hardware Problem
- If your computer successfully loaded into Windows, and only freeze during video or music playing, you probably have a bad player or your video card accelerated too much, try reduce the video card acceleration settings. (Right Click Desktop => Properties => Settings =>Advance => TroubleShoot => try to reduce the Hardware acceleration)
- Check and feel if your computer is over heated, never over clock your PC unless you know what you are doing. You might need a good cooling system if your computer always over heated, and over heating can cause slow down and freeze. (May be you need extra fan or water cooling?)
- If your computer successfully loaded Windows but freeze before you run any application, try to disable the network. If the network disabled and everything is normal, reinstall the network driver or check your network IP settings. Never use the same cable and plug two ends to the same router, the whole network will be turtle slow!
The Software Problem
- If your computer is normal and only freeze when running certain software application, you can try to uninstall the software, then use registry cleaner to clean any unwanted registry entries before reinstalling the software.
- If the problem still persists, try to disable some services related to the network, you may easily done this with “msconfig” (Start=>Run=>Type “msconfig”=> Services) or Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Remember to create a restore point and find out each service functionality before trying to disable it.
- If your computer just freeze recently after installation of certain software, try to uninstall the software and use restore point to restore to the time before installing the software.
If these 2 major steps still not cure your PC, you need to backup all your data and perform a full re-install. Always a good practice to backup your whole computer with Hard Disk backup tools (Drive Image tools). You can easily recover your windows completely without any configuration and reinstallation problems…
