The Danger of Registry Cleaner ?!

Warning: Danger ! Danger! Don’t use Registry Cleaner until you read this!

Registry Cleaner is a very dangerous tool, you may corrupt your Registry and lead to unbootable Windows; you might kill your application software as well, take it seriously…

If you have heard many rumors about the danger of registry cleaner, you properly think that registry cleaner is something to avoid! But that is not the case, because the danger is not what you think. There are some spyware simulate registry cleaner, that is dangerous! But you can use Anti Spyware to remove them.

The real danger lies on the incorrect removal of proper registry entries. If this happens, some windows software will behave abnormally! And the worst part is corruption of Windows! Which result in a total lost of the system. Windows might not boot or even operate properly! So it is always a good practice to backup your data and Windows registry before trying anything!

Most modern Registry Cleaner provides a good backup function, every time before registry cleaning, it will automatically backup all detected errors before cleaning up. This will always allow user to rollback any changes to the registry. If you however find that the registry cleaner is the cause of the problems, just restore the backup and everything will be back to the point of cleaning! But I must warn you to use the restore function wisely, because improper restore might also cause problems! especially removed programs!

In general, you are safe as long as you use some of the popular Registry Cleaner such as Registry Easy and Regcure, although you might already read some bad comments about Regcure, but my experience with it just tell the opposite. Regcure can detects a lots of errors within the least time (399 errors in 7 seconds, what a record!), it is good for schedule maintenance!

I have tried and use both products, none of the them fail me and I can personally guarantee you that they are free of Danger ! Having say that, you should always backup your Windows Registry before any attempt to repair it!

Registry software is an important tools to maintain your Windows in a healthy state, without them you may be O.K. in normal office environment, but not home computer. Because home PC is tend to use all sort of software, multimedia and different purposes, this will gradually slow down your computer as time goes, the only way to avoid such problem is to maintain a healthy registry.

Commercial Registry software will also take the danger of registry cleaner to the minimum, if you are using free registry cleaner such as Eusing and CCleaner, you better be good, because you dont want to be mislead by the over aggressive detection and kill some of the GOOD entries!

Is Your Windows Boot Very Slow? Do you know you can speed up your computer boot time up to 2x or more with just few simple tweaks?

If you encounter Windows startup slow, you must check few things here before we go into tweaking the system:

  1. Disabled Network adapter (Control Panel -> Network Connection)- If the computer recover to the normal state, most probably you have a bad network driver, incorrect network settings or just simply broken network adapter.
  2. Check for recent software installation - Try to uninstall it and roll back to the restore point before installation.
  3. Try To lower the Video Hardware acceleration (Control Panel -> Display -> Troubleshoot) - If this help, meaning you need to re-install your video driver or something is wrong with your video card.

If none of the above mention worked, you can use the old boot-vis tool from Microsoft (Should use this tool only if you are still using Windows XP SP1), or Tune-XP (Very Effective Tool and is FREE !) for Windows XP SP2, this should cure windows start slow problem in most cases, even “Normal” Windows should use it to speed up overall boot time. How to Repair Computer Slow Down Problem?

Do know 80% of your computer slow down problem can be easily repaired? Use the FREEWARE AND TOOLS below to recover your speed!

Never re-install your Windows just simply your computer running slow, most of the time is because some small mistake you done below, avoid them in the future and you won’t be happier!

I start to understand why Microsoft Windows will gradually slow down as time goes, but if your computer slow down suddenly, this means that you have a very high chance infected by Virus or Spyware! Before I go into more details on how to remove virus and spyware, you should try to check your network setting first. During the search for answer, I found that one of my network card is damage, and I suspect the virus or spyware excessive access to it. After I replace the card my computer seems to restore some speed. So first step is try to disable your network adapter (Control Panel -> Network Connections). If your computer speed restored, check every network adapters and reconfigure them properly.
If you are still on Windows XP, try this freeware TuneXP, is an optimize tool for Windows XP to speed up boot time and program loading speed.

Next, install Anti Virus and Anti Spyware, below is some of the software I tried, some of them is free, but work very well. Remember to test other Anti Virus and Anti Spyware, because you never know if your Anti Software is infected or ineffective:

Anti Virus

  1. Bitdefender Anti Virus - Try the 30 days trial version, has all the necessary components to detect and remove virus, but consume only little resources, the best choice there is…(Price cheap too!)
  2. AVG Free Anti Virus - Good for free user, but consume some resources and the detection speed is not fast.

Anti Spyware

  1. Spy Bot Search And Destroy (Not So Sexy…Just a Plain interface)
  2. Adaware (Nice Interface)
  3. Windows Defender (Microsoft Default Anti Spyware for Vista and XP SP2)

These 3 freeware is not the most effective, but if you want to be sure, another paid 2 Anti Spyware is highly recommended, at least go download and try.

  1. Webroot SpySweeper
  2. Max Secure Spyware Detector (The fastest, but a bit overkill Anti Spyware) - It will take over your host file (C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts), if you are using host file for what ever reasons, try to set the hosts file to readonly before installing it.

If all of the above mention software fail to cure the problem, I would recommend you give it a try for registry cleaner software, and 2 of the best are:

  1. Registry Easy - My favorite Registry Cleaner! Comes with XP and Vista tuning features, and it did speed up my Windows up to 2x. (I have too many software installed…!)
  2. Regcure - Another Good Registry Cleaner, and if your computer infected with spyware, this is a better choice to purchase together with XoftSypSE (Another effective Anti Spyware!) and get a good discount!

I know registry cleaner can help to restore speed if your PC just like mine, lots of software installed (Especially effective with Heavy and Fat software computer!). I tried and it work! If your computer do not have many software installed, save your money and try the freeware cleaner.

You can also try freeware cleaner, Eusing registry cleaner, which I highly recommended for every user, including existing Registry Easy and Regcure Owner! One thing I must highlight here, NO SINGLE REGISTRY CLEANER CAN DETECT AND REMOVE REGISTRY ERRORS. You can simply try to scan and clean with one registry cleaner, then try another one, it still detects other errors! Myself is a bit extreme, I use 2 commercial Registry Cleaners and 3 freeware!

Lastly if you are that unfortunate, you should forget about saving your PC, just backup the data and perform a clean Operating System installation, this time remember to use disk imaging backup software to backup every time you perform any new software installation. After clean install, get these software or equivalent :

  1. Acronis True Image
  2. Bitdefender (You can download the version 10, which is FREE!)
  3. Registry Easy
  4. Regcure and XoftSpySE

It wont cost you a hand and a leg, but save you lots of time! Certainly you can always rely on free solution, I would only recommend you do that if you are computer enthusiast…at least you know what you are doing!

How to Counter Computer Freeze Problem?

Computer freeze again? Do you know you can repair it without reinstalling your Windows?

You can always reinstalling you Windows if they freeze again, but do you really want to do that if you can repair it within 10 minutes?

Microsoft Windows is not a stable operating system until Windows XP Service Pack 2! If your computer still freeze after service pack 2, most probably is the software or hardware problem instead of operating system.

Normally there are only 2 major steps to determine the real cause of computer freezing:

The Hardware Problem

  1. If your computer successfully loaded into Windows, and only freeze during video or music playing, you probably have a bad player or your video card accelerated too much, try reduce the video card acceleration settings. (Right Click Desktop => Properties => Settings =>Advance => TroubleShoot => try to reduce the Hardware acceleration)
  2. Check and feel if your computer is over heated, never over clock your PC unless you know what you are doing. You might need a good cooling system if your computer always over heated, and over heating can cause slow down and freeze. (May be you need extra fan or water cooling?)
  3. If your computer successfully loaded Windows but freeze before you run any application, try to disable the network. If the network disabled and everything is normal, reinstall the network driver or check your network IP settings. Never use the same cable and plug two ends to the same router, the whole network will be turtle slow!

The Software Problem

  1. If your computer is normal and only freeze when running certain software application, you can try to uninstall the software, then use registry cleaner to clean any unwanted registry entries before reinstalling the software.
  2. If the problem still persists, try to disable some services related to the network, you may easily done this with “msconfig” (Start=>Run=>Type “msconfig”=> Services) or Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Remember to create a restore point and find out each service functionality before trying to disable it.
  3. If your computer just freeze recently after installation of certain software, try to uninstall the software and use restore point to restore to the time before installing the software.

If these 2 major steps still not cure your PC, you need to backup all your data and perform a full re-install. Always a good practice to backup your whole computer with Hard Disk backup tools (Drive Image tools). You can easily recover your windows completely without any configuration and reinstallation problems…

Always keep one or more copies of registry cleaner. At lease keep one copy of the Best Registry Cleaner – Registry Easy, it will help you minimize Computer Freeze Problem, narrow down the real reason behind the freeze.

Although Registry Cleaner doesnt guarantee the fix, but it does cure the common problems most of the time and help you determine if you need to re-install the operating system or not.

If the above mention method does not cure your freeze problem, try some optimize tricks at PC Optimization.

How to Repair Extreme Slow PC?

Don’t throw away your computer even if you are tired of its’ extreme slow speed! I once almost did that but now I know there is a way to counter this problem!

If your computer is that slow, first you must identify your hardware specification, if your processor is within 3 years old, and the memory is at sufficient (for example, XP with at least 512MB, Vista at least 2GB), then you should check for Virus and Spyware, because these malicious softwares will take up almost all of your computer resources, and constantly use your Internet Bandwidth to spread themselves, even super computer will slow down!

If you have already installed Anti Virus, the chance of virus infection is only 1% (If you install prior infection); however, the chances of your computer infected by spyware will be higher, because current Anti Spyware technology is not as mature as Anti Virus. You can try multiple Anti Spyware for better detection, let’s start from the 4 best FREE ANTI SPYWARE:

  1. Spyware Terminator
  2. Spybot Search & Destroy
  3. Windows Defender
  4. Adaware

If you need Anti Virus, I would highly recommend Bitdefender, it consume very little resources and you can download the free version - Ver. 10, good enough for removal of all known Viruses.

If the problem is not cause by Virus and Spyware, the next place you should check is Network Settings. Improper installation of driver and settings will cause the network resources being wasted in continuos bad loops, causing the whole system to slow down! If the problem is not in the network settings, you should check your Video Adapter for driver and settings, try to disable acceleration features to diagnose the problem.

Next, you should install few registry cleaners, such as Eusing and Ccleaner, and use them carefully because they are a bit extreme and might not be up to date! (Might not fully support Vista or XP SP3!). To have a better result, you should try Registry Easy,it comes with lot of utilities for tuning your Windows, and always up to date with newer Windows, you can use it to fine tune your Windows startup services and normal services. If you can minimize the resources consumed by your services, you can definately improves your computer speed! Registry Easy also have a system optimizer to speed up your overall boot up time, and I absolutely love it!

After registry cleaning, restart your computer, try the tuning function in Registry Easy. If you are that unfortunate, and the system is still slow, you will need to re-install Windows. Never re-install Windows without a Hard Disk Imaging backup software. If you have enough disk space, you can do multiple backup (disk imaging) during every re-install process. This will allows you to rollback any history backup you like without re-installing the whole system again.

Re-installing Windows is the last thing you do, but if you must do it, do it properly and wisely. Use hard disk imaging Utilities such as Acronis True Image. You can easily restore your PC to the state where everything is guaranteed to work! Even if you need to test new software, you should backup your Windows accordingly (Acronis True Image 11 offers a very cool feature that allows you to snapshot your computer before doing any testing, and restore it within seconds after you decided to rollback!)…

If you try the method as mention, you should be able to recover your speed at least 80%, else re-install your O.S. However you should always use some registry cleaners, such as Registry Easy to maintain your registry to a healthy level; Only healthy registry will gives you a fast PC! If you want to further optimize your PC, try the FREE TuneXP (Only for XP!) . It makes your Windows XP boot better and launch program faster. Clikc on the image below to access Acronis True Image and BitDefender.
